Cashless payments to be offered at up to 20 more hawker centres this year A further 10 to 20 food centres will be offering cashless payment this year through FlashPay terminals with the intention to improve productivity.  TODAY reports that NETS executive officer Jeffrey Goh announced plans for more food centres to incorporate FlashPay terminals at last weekend's opening of Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre, which is the latest precinct to offer such services. It is not known which other food centres would be offering cashless payment in the future.  Customers simply have to tap their FlashPay-enabled cards on terminals preloaded with the prices of the stall's dishes, an initiative that would increase the speed and convenience of transaction. Furthermore, the amount collected through FlashPay are deposited directly into the stall-owner's bank accounts the following day, diminishing their need to drop by banks to deposit cash.  A survey conducted by NETS on both consumers and hawkers at Clementi centre also revealed positive reception to the concept.  Despite the initiative, stallholders have reported that the service has not been reached mainstream acceptance — most customers are accustomed to paying cash at hawker centres.  Photo: NETS Facebook page
