In a Facebook statement earlier today (Jan. 9), Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) announced it has terminated the employment one of its nurses Ello Ed Mundsel Bello, for his derogatory remarks against Singaporeans and Islam.
The hospital says Mr. Bello has admitted he personally wrote the three comments that were highlighted by netizens, using his Facebook and Google accounts.
The Filipino had earlier denied writing the comments using his Facebook account, which he claimed had been hacked. "These comments were highly irresponsible and offensive to Singapore and religion. They have distressed members of the public and our hospital staff," the statement reads. "His conduct goes against our staff values of respect, professionalism and social responsibility. As a public healthcare institution, we take a very serious view and have zero tolerance on conduct that is offensive and detrimental to multi-cultural harmony in Singapore."
TTSH also said on Facebook their decision for the dismissal was independent of the on-going police investigation and that it was still co-operating with the authorities.
