It seems that the affair with Bukit Batok's sordid brush with hair-raising rat infestation is now over, according to hired exterminators Star Pest Control.
Speaking to TODAY, Star Pest Control mananger Bernard Chan remarked that they've no longer noticed any more rat activity on the surveillance cameras they've installed at the forested area near Bukit Batok MRT station, where the massive colony of vermin was first spotted last month.
The second phase of the extermination exercise focusing on monitoring rat activity in the area has officially ended yesterday, with Star Pest Control making the prognosis that the infestation is not likely to recur.
The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) attributed the boom in rat population near Bukit Batok MRT station to the frequent feeding of stray dogs, whose leftovers get eaten up by rats and enabling rapid breeding of pests. Dog lovers rebutted the sentiment, stating that the stray dogs have always finished up the food left out in the open for them.
