NEA: Government's long-term goal is to prohibit smoking in all public areasThe National Environment Agency (NEA) has reiterated its stand on keeping most of Singapore smoke-free, in a letter to the local press.  Written by corporate communciations manager Brendan Sheares, the letter describes how smoking is now prohibited in 32,000 premises, including bus stops, covered walkways, entertainment outlets, hospitals, schools and public corridors. "The Government's long-term goal is to prohibit smoking in all public areas except designated smoking points, which we are actively working with community groups and stakeholders to implement at more neighbourhoods," Sheares wrote. According to NEA, action continues to be taken against those who flout anti-smoking laws. "As of November a total of 15,503 enforcement actions have been taken against non-compliant smokers."
