Do you miss local sitcoms? We do. And who can blame us? More than 10 years on, people are still impersonating Gurmit Singh impersonating an ah beng construction worker. Where can we watch some new stuff?
Maybe on MediaCorp Channel 5, which debuts Heartland Hubby at 9:30pm tomorrow.
For one, it's the first animated comedy to come out of this country. It's also got all these appealing elements, like how it's set in a neighbourhood called Bukit Prata and that appealing dysfunctional family dynamic (The three kids are a policewoman, a film student and child prodigy? Yes, please.).
The Simpsons meets Under One Roof? We hope so. And there's copious amounts of Singlish too, despite Heartland Hubby being funded by the Media Development Authority (MDA).
Veteran actors Lim Yu Beng and Petrina Kow lend their voices to the two lead parentals Encik Lim Teh Peng (hah!) and Madam Molly, while 10-year-old genius Winnie and tomboy policewoman Cathy are both played by Denise Tan. The pretentious media student Robbie is voiced by Dwayne Tan.
Heartland Hubby also features other celebrated local talents including Alaric Tay, Chua Enlai, Ebi Shankara, Hossan Leong, Judee Tan and Siti Khalijah.
And, we'd be crazy not to mention this: two of the regular characters are cats and yes, they'll be talking.
Excited, can? OK, time for a preview:
