Singapore-registered cargo ship transporting luxury cars deliberately grounded off English coastA Singapore-registered cargo ship carrying 1,400 cars and other equipment became grounded on Bramble Bank in the Solent last Saturday night.  Twenty-five crew members of the 51,000-tonne cargo vessel Hoegh Osaka have been extricated safely, with no life-threatening injuries reported, according to the Press Trust of India. Some of the crew members had to be airlifted by coastguard helicopter, while others were rescued by lifeboats from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. All of the mariners have been accounted for.   Visited the #HoeghOsaka today, hits home the dangers #seafarers encounter in transiting goods! @ABPSouthampton pic.twitter.com/9DUgQTgOkB — dazprocter (@dazprocter) January 4, 2015 According to the UK's Daily Mail, the ship was deliberately grounded to prevent the vessel from capsizing after it started to tilt 45 degrees as it left the port at Southampton. It was believed that a major mechanical failure caused the ship to undergo listing issues.  Salvage experts have been unsuccessful in their attempt to re-float the ship, but it is still considered in a stable state. The Hoegh Osaka was carrying luxury cars including Rolls-Royces and Bentleys, along with agricultural or building plant machines. Motor vehicle companies are now checking to see if they had cars on the grounded ship.  Photo: @dazprocter via Twitter
