If there's one thing Singapore is really good at, it's the ability to break records for the most goofiest things ever (re: most number of people knitting simultaneously, world's single longest table, most number of vinyl records smashed in 30 seconds). With the advent of 2015 arrives another very silly record-breaking achievement — the Guinness World Record for the most people wearing balloon hats.
A total of 5,911 people gathered on New Year's Eve at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio park for the countdown celebrations, together with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong himself gracing the event, according to various local reports.
The previous record was set by 4,017 people during the 2007 Utah Summer Games Opening Ceremony. Organisers here had created more than 12,000 balloon hats for the record-breaking event, but less than 6,000 turned up to take part in it. We wonder why.
