CNB seizes biggest heroin haul of 2014 on New Year's EveA Malaysian drug-runner thought that he could take advantage of the New Year's celebratory mood to smuggle in heroin across the Singapore border — but soon found out that the officers of Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) were as vigilant as ever.  On Dec. 31, ICA officers detected and seized a total of nearly 9.3 kilograms of heroin at Woodlands Checkpoint  — the largest haul of heroin uncovered for 2014.  Immigration officers were conducting a routine check on a Malaysia-registered vehicle at 7.30am on New Year's Eve when they recovered packets of heroin hidden under the rear passenger seat of the car. A total of 20 packets were seized, possessing a street value of more than $649,000.  Officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau conducted immediate follow-up investigations and soon arrested a 27-year-old Malaysian man in the vicinity of Woodlands Town Garden, believed to be an associate of the vehicle driver.  If convicted, both men will face the death penalty for trafficking more than 15 grams of pure heroin.  Photo: Central Narcotics Bureau newsroom
