More new flat buyers opting for open kitchen conceptsIt may be all the episodes of MasterChef, Iron Chef and Epic Meal Time thats sparking a new trend among build-to-order flat buyers — the taste for the open kitchen concept.  According to Channel NewsAsia, HDB reported that 6 out of 10 BTO flat buyers actively opted not to install a kitchen partition wall when given the choice.  The open kitchen option was piloted during a BTO exercise in 2012 at Teck Ghee Parkview, where around 70 percent of home buyers chose to employ the open kitchen concept.  One interior designer remarked to Channel NewsAsia such options help home owners save money, as they don't have to pay contractors to knock down walls, remove tiles and submit documents to achieve the design, which could incur costs of up to $800.  The first batch of flats offering open concept kitchens are expected to be finished in early 2017.  Photo: Renotalk Facebook page
