Shortage in fish and vegetables here as monsoon season continues to disrupt Malaysian supplyExpect much higher prices for fish and vegetables in the upcoming weeks — Malaysia's monsoon season has led to lower supplies of both, and Singapore is bearing the brunt of it.  The deficit has brought on an increase in the prices of fish imported from Malaysia. Channel NewsAsia reports that the average price of $4 per kilogramme has rised to $7 per kilo.  Supplies have seen drastic reductions even in Malaysia, where strong winds and rainstorms are preventing fisherman from heading out to sea while heavy rains are causing vegetables to rot. Vendors have also observed that the Malaysian government are cutting down on fish exports due to worries over meeting domestic demand.  However, the current holiday season also means that more Singaporeans are traveling overseas, lowering the demand for food and the impact of higher prices.  Photo: Atwater Village Newbie via Flickr
