Stench from Toa Payoh hoarder flat continues to plague neighbours even after deathEven after death, a Toa Payoh resident's miasmic legacy remains in the air, to the exasperation of his neighbors who already had to put up with it for over 10 years when he was alive.  The 50-year-old hoarder — only known to neighbors as Din — died last month, but the mess in his flat cannot be cleared until his next-of-kin are located. The New Paper reports that cockroaches and flies can be constantly seen around the flat.   His decomposing body was discovered in the house earlier in November, along with several cats, malnourished from neglect and infected by the squalor. Volunteers from the Cat Welfare Society have since rescued the cats from the flat in what must have been a very demanding, punishing operation.  Speaking to The New Paper, one of the volunteers remarked that the rescuers had to take several breaks due to overwhelming stench, which gave them headaches.  Neighbours also reported the troubles of living next to the abandoned flat — the pests and the odor. A resident reportedly uses up to four cans of insecticide per month to clear the common corridor of pests, while another keeps her door and windows shut at all times, and has to resort to frequent air-conditioner use to avoid smelling the stench.  Photo: Cat Welfare Society Facebook page
