![Two men arrested for attempting to smuggle cannabis and heroin into immigration checkpoints]()
Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at Woodlands at Tuas Checkpoints had their work cut out for them yesterday when they uncovered a over 6kg of drugs hidden in vehicles passing through.
Officers at Woodlands Checkpoint were conducting a routine check on a Malaysia-registered car when they found two blocks of cannabis hidden in the front engine's air filter compartment. Upon further investigation, four more blocks were found behind the driver's seat backrest and the front passenger's seat backrest — amounting to a potential street value of more than $195,000.
Over at Tuas, another Malaysia-registered car was also involved in drug smuggling. During the course of a routine check, officers found a black bundle in the arm rest compartment containing about 465 grams of heroin, with an estimated street worth of more than $32,000.
Both drivers have been arrested and handed over to the Central Narcotics Bureau. Both are liable for the death penalty for trafficking more than 15 grams of pure heroin and 500 grams of cannabis.
