![Mobile phone store manager embezzles over $142,000, sentenced to 2 years imprisonment]()
Here’s something that should scare other shady tech retailers (*cough* Sim Lim Square *cough) — a former mobile phone store manager has just been sentenced to two years in prison for misappropriating over $142,000.
26-year-old Yeo Hang Kai was guilty of filching earnings from sales of mobile phones at his workplace, a G Force Network store located at IMM shopping mall since January this year, TODAY reports.
The district court heard that Yeo had sold more than 200 mobile phones to a third party, absconding to Vietnam with the money he misappropriated, using them to gamble and fund his expenses. The outlet’s retail manager made a police report in July when he found out what Yeo had done.
The embezzler pleaded guilty to committing criminal breach of trust, and was not able to return any of the $142,890 that he stole.
District Judge Christopher Goh noted that Yeo was a first-time offender and the sole breadwinner for four children, but the amount of money embezzled was still a large amount. He could have been jailed up to 15 years and fined.
