No pedalling away from the long arm of the law — traffic police have arrested two men for their suspected involvement in promoting and organising illegal racing activities along Tanglin Halt Road.
The police were first alerted to the incident on Nov. 29 when cyclists were spotted racing along the road at Commonwealth. Investigations lead them to two men, aged 28 and 39 years respectively, for masterminding the illegal racing event. Investigations are currently ongoing to establish the identities of the other illegal racers.
If found guilty, they would be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $2,000. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, they would be liable to a mandatory jail term of up to 12 month and a fine of up to $3,000. The vehicles used in the race will also be forfeited.
“Traffic Police takes a serious view against illegal racing on public roads and will not hesitate to enforce against irresponsible racers who partake in such illegal activities and jeopardise other road users with their stunts.” says Commander of Traffic Police Sam Tee.
