SG50 film '1965' adds new cast member — former opposition politician Nicole SeahNicole Seah may have left her prominent life in politics behind but she’s certainly not stepping out of public eye — the former National Solidarity Party (NSP) candidate will be making her acting debut in the star-studded SG50 film, 1965.  TODAY confirms that the former opposition politician will be playing a main supporting role in the movie as Mei, the wife of a police inspector played by Qi Yuwu. The character she will be portraying is a 29-year-old Singaporean housewife and a mother of one, and Seah will be speaking both Mandarin and Malay as part of the role.  Seah had left a stint in politics earlier in August when she tendered her resignation from the NSP to pursue a career in advertising, even moving to Bangkok to further her opportunities in the industry. The 2011 Singapore General Elections saw contesting against the ruling People’s Action Party in Marine Parade GRC, winning almost half of the vote share.  Speaking to TODAY, she remarked that she took on the role because of the interesting script, noting that 1965 offers something different than other local films. The historical aspect also appeals to her, in particular the parts of the country’s history that people don’t bring up anymore.  Regarding all the detractors and critics that might well be hating on her for taking up the role — especially considering her previous life as an opposition politician — Seah is fully aware of what might come, and ostensibly, she doesn’t really care.  Photo: Nicole Seah Facebook page
