According to Minister for Manpower Tan Chuan Jin, surveys have revealed that migrant workers are satisfied about working in Singapore.
The joint survey, commissioned by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC), found that nine in 10 foreign workers have expressed being content with employment conditions and their well-being working here, while a similar proportion would recommend Singapore as a place to work, reporting good salaries and living environment.
Speaking at the sixth International Migrants Day celebrations yesterday, the minister also extended his condolences to the families of the four workers who died in the Geylang workers dormitory blaze last Saturday, assuring that the authorities are conducting investigations into the incident.
Regarding the tragedy, the chairman of the Migrant Workers’ Centre has raised concerns about sub-standard living conditions for foreign workers here, urging authorities to take stronger actions against employers and landlords when they flout housing rules.
