A man suspected of being involved in a series of loanshark harassment cases at residential units islandwide was charged in Court on Saturday.
He was arrested in the vicinity of Block 922 Tampines Street 91 after police received numerous reports of residential units being splashed with paint. Debtors' notes were also found in the locations.
Preliminary investigations revealed the 34-year-old was responsible for the incidents, which were reported between Nov. 28 and Dec. 4.
He was found in possession of cans of paint and bicycle locks during the arrest.
Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offenders found guilty of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender committing or attempting to commit any acts of harassment, shall be punished with up to five years in jail, and a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000. He shall also be liable to caning of not less than three and not more than six strokes.
