Cleaner, safer streets after Public Order Act enacted in Little IndiaAlmost a year since riots rocked and wrecked Little India, the neighbourhood has seen improved conditions in public order since alcohol curbs have been enforced in the area, along with various installations of police surveillance cameras and lights. Since the curbs on alcohol consumption and sale in Little India kicked off in April, 300 people and four stores have been caught breaking the rules, TODAY reports. The figures were released during a media tour of the area as part of an update on the measures implemented following the riots last year.  A Public Order Act was enacted in April this year bans the public consumption of alcohol and restricts alcohol sales at certain times. First-time offenders will be given a warning; repeat offenders may be fined. Police also possess limited powers to deal with potential threats to public order.  Residents and shopkeepers of Little India speaking to TODAY have reported markedly improved conditions in the neighbourhood, especially in environmental hygiene and safety.  Reportedly, 88 more cameras will be installed in the area by December next year, doubling the level of police surveillance since the riots.  Photo: James Cridland via Flickr
