The sordid (and quite frankly, horrifying) details about the Ang Mo Kio murder-suicide involving a mother and daughter have been divulged by the State Coroner, who presented his autopsy findings yesterday in court.
Earlier in June, 51-year-old Andrea Tay’s sanity switch turn off for good, driving her to absolutely butcher her 75-year-old mother Rosaline Lim before jumping to her death from the sixth-floor.
TODAY reports that the State Coroner described the scene as one of “veritable carnage”.
He reported over 100 stab and cut wounds on Lim’s body, most of them inflicted after she died. Two large holes ripped her right shoulder, caused by a stab that most probably displaced part of her right lung — which reportedly have been missing from the scene, and still has not been found today.
There was no question to Tay’s extremely deranged state of mind, especially when it was found that she severed her mother’s tongue at the base with a stab at her neck. Lim’s eyeballs were gouged out after she died.
Further details that lead to that tragic night were also revealed in court yesterday. Tay had been at odds with her mother for several years, to the point of accusing Lim of casting black magic spells on her.
Tay’s paranoia climbed to extreme levels during the days before she cracked, all of which were directed at her mother. Lim was accused of spying and draining her energy.
During the gruesome assault, Tay’s own daughter Germaine Ng was present in the flat. She was initially awakened by her grandmother’s screams and her mother’s shouting. Ng locked her doors and called her father and the Singapore Civil Defence Force for help, as the ordeal went on outside her room. Her grandmother’s voice eventually subsided, but hacking sounds continued on for at least five minutes.
After a brief conversation between Ng and Tay — who apologised and insisted that it was not her fault — police officers managed to enter the flat. Tay then climbed out the window onto the parapet and jumped to her death. Her legs were severed after hitting a laundry rack during her descent.
