50 to 60 personnel from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will be deployed into the international coalition against the militant group Islamic State (IS) that has taken over parts of Iraq and Syria and generally wreaking havoc in the Middle East.
Speaking to reporters after the opening go a new training facility in Pasir Ris Camp, Defence Minister Ng Eng Han further elaborated that SAF planning officers and liaison envoys have been receiving mission briefings at the United State Central Command.
According to TODAY, Singapore will be joining 33 other countries including Japan, Britain, Saudi Arabia and more in the United States-led coalition against IS.
SAF troops are expected to be stationed in the Middle Eastern countries surrounding combat zones in Iraq and Syria, but no date has been set when exactly they’ll be heading out.
