Raunchy local thriller ‘Lang Toh’ makes it through censors uncut, rated R21Singapore is the last place for a sexploitation film to take place, but for filmmaker Sam Loh, his latest work Lang Toh has received the green light from the censorship board to go ahead with a premiere screening in this year’s Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF).  In an extensive feature on Business Times, Loh expressed his incredulity that his film was passed totally uncut. He did not even have the local Singaporean audience in mind when making the film, expecting Lang Tong to be banned here.  Taking inspiration from deeply unsettling classics such as Takashi Miike’s Audition and Fruit Chan’s Dumplings, Lang Tong (“nice soup” in Cantonese) centres around themes of deception, sex, murder and bak kut teh, with Loh insisting that the numerous sex scenes and nudity are integral to the plot.  Regarding the controversy and arousing buzz surrounding the film, model and actress Angeline Yap — who has a starring role in Lang Tong — has spoken out on why she took on the job. Calling out on Singapore’s fond relationship for heartland dramas and family-friendly content, the former Miss World Singapore 3rd Runner up hit back on her detractors for taking on the sexually explicit role.    (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Post by Angeline Yap. “Now is already the 21st Modern Century. We are not living in our ancestors olden days,” she wrote. “And this doesn’t make me any less worthy than anyone else. It only shows that I’m strong and brave enough.”  Here’s the hot and heavy, very NSFW trailer for Lang Tong. Seriously guys, it’s NSFW.   Catch the screening of Lang Tong at the National Museum of Singapore in SGIFF on Dec. 13 — tickets on sale at $12 on Sistic.  Photo: YouTube screengrab
