A 69-year-old man just passed away from dengue at Mount Alvernia Hospital yesterday, making him the fifth person to die from the infection this year.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) informed in a press release that the patient was living at Chuan Terrace, an active dengue cluster. He was admitted to the hospital earlier this week on Nov. 24, and succumbed to the illness yesterday.
NEA premise inspections in the area uncovered 20 counts of mosquito breeding thus far, and thermal fogging and vector control operations are being conducted to destroy any infective adult mosquitoes and potential breeding habitats.
The agency has also assured that weekly dengue cased have dropped consecutively over the past five weeks, but they maintain that Singapore residents still need to remain vigilant against dengue cases due to a large proportion of the population lacking immunity against infection.
Both MOH and NEA have expressed their condolences to the family of the patient.
