Singapore has dropped 12 places on Quacuarelli Symonds' (QS) 2015 ranking of best student cities.
The Republic, which was third just last year following Paris and London, is now number 15 on the list.
Paris continues to rank first, while Melbourne has taken London's place.
According to the brief, the third edition of QS' best student cities index designed to help international students pick a temporary home, adopted new indicators to better reflect each urban area's desirability. For the first time, each city has received a score for safety, pollution, corruption and tolerance and inclusion. The Economist’s Global Liveability Ranking was also incorporated for the first time this year.
While the Singapore report does not reveal if the demotion can be attributed to this significant change in measurement, it highlights how the city's high prices can be a turn-off. "Singapore is ranked the 4th most expensive out of 214 cities in Mercer’s 2014 Cost of Living Survey, and tuition fees have also increased over the past year, particularly for international students."
