Netizens are all aflutter in the past few days over New Zealand Immigration’s recent call for new citizens from Singapore.
The New Zealand Now site invites Singaporeans to pack up their bags and become a New Zealand citizen, listing all the perks of living in the Pacific island country.
The grass seems a lot greener on the other side of course, enticing locals with their cool weather, great work/life balance and natural beauty to enjoy. Subsidised education and healthcare, along with a much lower living cost are touched upon as well, which honestly sounds really appealing for those who want to raise a family in a less stressful environment.
“Depending on your needs and situation, you could find the cost of living in New Zealand rather cheaper than you’re used to. To put that into perspective, Singapore was rated the world’s 4th most expensive city to live in by Mercer’s Cost of Living Survey. By comparison, Auckland was way down the rankings at 58th and Wellington even less expensive at 75th,” they wrote.
The website makes it known that New Zealand has a workforce shortage, and interested applicants are welcome to check which skills are most needed in the country.
All in all, it’s probably something that the Singapore government will probably frown upon, considering the existing population growth problem here and the fear of a grey population explosion in the future.
