A new MRT station in the southern end of Singapore has opened for passenger service yesterday — the Marina South Pier station.
The new station is now the furthest end of the North-South Line, serving the Marina Bay Cruise Centre and future developments in the Marina Bay Downtown Area. Cruise passengers travelling to and fro the cruise centre will now find it more convenient to travel by public transport.
The train service to the Marina South Pier station have considerably longer waiting periods, with train intervals of up to 15 minutes on weekends and public holidays. The Land Transport Authority will work together with SMRT to improve train frequencies during periods of high passenger rates such as the annual Kusu Island pilgrimage season.
Taking five years to be constructed, the Marina South Pier station is now ready for passenger service following train testing over the last three months.
