The world's first Zentai Art Festival is happening in Singapore right now through December.
Zentai is the short form of "zentai taishu", which means full body tights in Japanese. Its use is growing in the contemporary arts and at the festival, 25 artists will study this phenomenon and translate it into dance, sound and visual exhibitions.
Among the shows planned for the two-month long event are Invisible Whole at The Substation Gallery, which will feature works by Singapore artists Justin Lee and Tan Ai Khim, butoh dance production This is Not Red on Nov. 14 and a children's workshop (Nov. 15) exploring zentai's role in realising dreams, such as that of wanting to be a superhero.
There will also be forums and artist talks, even the sale of zentai suits at $50 each.
Check out the event website and Facebook page for more info.
BTW: If that top pic gave you the chills in a good way, you're probably interested to join the local zentai community — here's their Facebook page. They freaked out people on the streets on Nov. 7, when they took a walk in their 'birthday suits' to launch the Zentai Art Festival in Singapore.
