Roy Ngerng was found today (Nov. 7) to be guilty of defaming Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, with damages to be assessed.
According to Channel NewsAsia, Justice Lee Seiu Kin said he had no doubt it was defamatory to suggest that the plaintiff, PM Lee, was guilty of criminal misappropriation of the CPF monies. He also ordered Ngerng to be restrained from publishing or disseminating that allegation, or any words and/or images to the same effect.
PM Lee had filed the defamation suit against Ngerng in May this year, after the blogger had published a post on The Heart Truths titled "Where Your CPF Money is Going: Learning from the City Harvest Trial", which alleged that CPF monies contributed by Singaporeans had been misappropriated, complete with a summary chart.
Ngerng, who published the judgement on his blog today, said he was "disappointed" by it, but will "continue to speak up on the CPF and other issues that concern Singaporeans".
