Police have arrested a 36-year-old man believed to have committed House Trespass, Fraudulent Possession and Overstaying.
The authorities had been receiving reports of brand new home appliances going missing from HDB units undergoing renovation since August this year, and investigations were being conducted. The units that were being stolen from had only been secured at the gate using number locks.
On the night of Nov. 5, the suspect was spotted during anti-crime patrols, behaving suspiciously at a block of flat in Yishun Avenue 9. He took a lift to one of the units, where he was detained and found in possession of cash and handphones he could not account for.
He will be charged in court today for Overstaying. Investigations against him are still on-going for the other two offences.
For Overstaying, the punishment is up to six months jail, no less than three strokes of the cane and a fine not exceeding $6,000.
