Kudos: Passersby foil snatch theft attempt in Choa Chu KangOn Oct. 3, members of the public Mr. Abdul Qaliff bin Rahim and Mr. Sakiman bin Ishak helped nab a 24-year-old man, who'd snatched a victim's handphone.  The victim had given chase and shouted for help when the theft happened, attracting the attention of the two passersby.  The suspect was detailed along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1 and handed over to the police. The stolen phone was also recovered.  Preliminary investigations reveal the suspect may be involved in other similar cases.  He will be charged in court today and faces a maximum jail term of seven years if found guilty of Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. He may also be liable to caning.  Said Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Wilson Lim, Commander of the Jurong Police Division, "The two men did a good job to chase and detain the suspect and they will be commended for their public spirited effort. The suspect is believed to be involved in several other similar cases and his arrest has put a stop to his crime spree."  Photo: Victor via Wylio
