We're supposed to expect more rain than haze in these next few weeks, but already the 'weather man' is messing with us.
In an update today, the National Environment Agency (NEA) announced that yesterday's hazy conditions have persisted overnight and through the morning.
At 1pm, the 24-hr PSI was announced at 103 — 119, which is in the Unhealthy range.
This is reported to be caused by smoke haze from southern Sumatra, blown in by prevailing southerly winds.
NEA says the winds are forecast to blow the rest of the day and that the 24-hr PSI for Singapore is expected to remain in the high end of the Moderate range and low end of the Unhealthy range.
The impact of the haze is dependent on one's own health status, the PSI level, as well as the length and intensity of outdoor activity.
In light of the forecast, NEA suggests that healthy persons should reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion. Children, the elderly and pregnant women should minimise such activity, while those with lung or heart disease should avoid it altogether. For updates, visit the NEA website or the haze microsite.
