Activist lawyer M. Ravi, known for representing prominent cases such as that of drug trafficker Yong Vui Kong and CPF blogger Roy Ngerng, is facing a $7,000 fine over professional misconduct, The Straits Times reports.
He's being charged for releasing court documents to the media before serving them on the Attorney-General, as well as issuing press statements that interfere with four cases, including an attempt to ban workplace discrimination against homosexuals and the deportation of a foreign worker involved in last year's Little India riot.
The penalty was recommended by a disciplinary tribunal appointed by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, which also ordered that Mr. Ravi paid $3,000 in costs to the Law Society.
