Bukit Merah View, one of the five estates announced to have the Silver Zone implemented, launched its senior-friendly enhancements on Oct. 18.
The zones are marked with road signs and rumble strips at the entrance. Motorists will also find large painted markings indicating the 40km/h speed limit within the zone.
Inside the zone, residents can find various safety features such as chicanes and narrowed lanes designed to slow down vehicles, “LOOK” markings located at crossings that point out the direction of incoming traffic and newly-installed ramps that help seniors and pedestrians with disabilities travel safely.
These Silver Zones – namely at Bedok, Bukit Merah View, Jurong West, Marine Parade and Yishun –are targeted at areas with a bigger population of elderly folds and a higher accident rate involving seniors.
