Plans for a game-changing high-speed rail link between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur that could take passengers to and fro the two cities in 90 minutes has stepped into its next phase with the confirmation of seven stops in Malaysia.
Speaking at a conference in Tokyo, the Straits Times reported that Malaysia’s Land Public Transport Commission has set their sights on constructing stops at Nusajaya, Batu Pahat, Muar, Ayer Keroh, Seremban, Putrajaya before finally arriving at Kuala Lumpur itself.
According to the Commission’s Chairman Syed Hamid, construction of the high-speed rail project are likely to being in the third quarter of 2015. The exact date depends on the outcome of a meeting between the Singaporean and Malaysian governments, and according to various media reports, could cost up to RM 40 billion including purchases of locomotives and high-speed bullet trains.
Singapore on the other hand has yet to decide between Tuas West, Jurong East or the city centre to erect their railway terminal.
Prime Ministers from both countries have affirmed that the project will be completed by 2020.
