Singtel and Standard Chartered have rolled out an app that lets you virtually withdraw cash from your savings account and make secure payments to businesses and friends, without any administration fees.
Dash, which won the Gold in the Best Consumer Product category at the recent Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) Awards, claims to be the first of its kind in Singapore, allowing customers to 'download' cash from their savings account directly into their mobile phones.
Cute video showing how it works:
According to Ms. Gan Siok Hoon, the vice-president of mCommerce, Group Digital Life at Singtel, Dash aims to allow customers to download cash into mobile phones as assuringly as handling physical money. "With our unique, patent-pending technology, customers can instantly transfer money with a swipe when they need to pay someone," she said.
Dash, available on Android and iPhone platforms, can be used to make secure payments at more than 20,000 acceptance points island-wide, including 7-Eleven, KFC, Pizza Hut and Watsons.
Customers that sign up and open their own Dash mobile cash account will receive a $5 welcome bonus for a limited time.
