2015 is going to be an exciting year for the arts in Singapore, with jubilee celebrations coming in the form of a special feature film by local directing hotshots, as well as two Lee Kuan Yew musicals.
At the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) Work Plan Seminar yesterday, Minister Lawrence Wong announced two more SG50 initiatives – an 8km-walking trail and an art-inspired walkway – that will launch in November 2015.
The new 300-metre walkway called Art Connector, will lead pedestrians from City Hall MRT station to the National Gallery Singapore. Thousands of self-portraits by Singaporeans will form a mural on the walkway.
“It will reflect our collective promise to cognitive working together in building Singapore’s future,” said Mr. Wong.
Citizens are encouraged to take part in the Portraits of the Perople campaign launching next month.
The next initiative, the Jubilee Walk, is an 8km long commemorative trail that brings participants on a walk down memory lane to pay homage to the nation’s history and heritage. Setting off at the National Museum, it will continue on through Civic Core, Asian Civilisations Museum, the new National Gallery at Padang, and extending down to Gardens by the Bay.
The ministry will be organising a mass walk to mark the launch of the Jubilee Walk and the new Jubilee Bridge at Marina Bay next year.
