Crime does pay, or at least it does for a crooked couple here who’ve took home over $1 million from providing shady services in the nine pubs they own along Orchard Road.
According to The Straits Times Singaporean pub owner Ang Boon Seng and his Filipino wife Ylarde Anne Asuncion earned about $1.08 million from 2009 to 2013, and 40 percent of their profits were made from the sexual services they illegally dispensed to patrons.
Together with 17 other accomplices, the couple procured women from the Philippines to provide the sexual services.
Patrons were able to obtain oral sex and other services inside the pubs, so long as they bought a quota of drinks, which could cost from $22 to $55. A $200 “bar fine” was administered if the patrons would prefer to take a woman out for activities, i.e. sexual intercourse.
Asuncion was in charge of bringing in the women, who would agree to work as “performing artists” in the establishments. They would be bound to a “debt” that would require them to provide sexual services to pay it off, before they could attain a proper salary.
The New Paper reports that a total of 55 women were employed by Ang to work in his pubs; seven of which were located in Orchard Plaza and two in Cuppage Plaza. Monthly profits could go up to $60,000.
Ang now faces 232 charges and is awaiting sentencing for various crimes including prositution and abetting with other to harbour the women, while Asuncion faces six charges. Both are expected to be sentenced on Monday.
