Mr. Wong Kim Teng, a Singaporean who got injured in the Bukit Bintang blast yesterday morning, is scheduled to undergo a minor surgery to remove grenade fragments from his body, at Ampang Hospital.
Speaking to Channel NewsAsia, a spokesman from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said the Singapore High Commission understands that only one local was identified as a victim of the incident, though a report by The Malaysian Insider says there were two.
67-year-old Mr. Wong was walking over to his parked car when the grenade exploded outside Sun Complex. He escaped with wounded lower limbs and was given five stitches during initial treatment.
According to The Malay Mail, the attack was related to an online gambling war involving a high-ranking Imbi gangster “Ah Hai”.
The 53-year-old man had been “pinching” bookies from other syndicates by offering higher profits. It’s believed that the bombing was the work of upset gambling syndicates.
CCTV footage reveal two hitmen hurling grenades from the second storey of the Sun Plaza before escaping the scene in a car. Ah Hai managed to escape unhurt while car jockey Mr. Tiong Kwong Yie, 36, died from the explosion.
It’s understood that the police will be bringing in Ah Hai for investigations soon.
