The Land Transport Authority (LTA) recently announced plans to upgrade the technology of their central bus management systems that will offer greater convenience to commuters.
Replying to a query in Parliament, Senior Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo discloses that the LTA is already developing technological systems that will enable the relay of real-time information to and from buses and bus stops. Currently, bus operators have separate fleet management systems and do not have the necessary infrastructure and systems for the information relay to take take place.
With the complete implementation of the system by 2017, announcement of the next arriving bus or bus stop can be delivered through audio broadcasts to assist visually-impaired commuters, or even delivered through smart-phone apps and other devices.
