A man’s obsession with Airsoft guns has landed him in jail once again, even after imprisonment five months earlier for another incident involving the replica weapons.
52-year old Lee Chee Kum was sentenced yesterday to two weeks imprisonment for illegal import of replica weapons, Channel NewsAsia reports, bringing in an assortment weapons that would make a child wet his pants in joy, including 12 Airsoft guns, three replica rifles and pellets from Bangkok.
Even though the replicas are non-lethal (they usually fire small spherical plastic pellets), such air guns are not allowed here unless a license is issued by the Police Licensing and Regulatory Department as they look like perfectly realistic guns.
Lee’s weapons cache was first found in his luggage during immigration checks in October, his second trip to Bangkok. His earlier trip to Bangkok in September saw him successfully bringing in three replica rifles, which were seized near the shoreline of Upper Seletar Reservoir due to Lee’s younger brother throwing them away to punish him for importing such guns again.
Lee was arrested on the same day when he left the airport without his luggage after being told it was to be scanned. Reportedly, he wanted to “try his luck” despite knowing the illegality of bringing in the weapons without a licence.
It appears that the man just really likes his air guns. In April last year, Lee was jailed for six weeks for accidentally shooting a neighbour with an air rifle and fined $5,000 for possession of illegal weapons.
