MDA launches scheme to help low-income households switch to digital TVThe Media Development Authority (MDA) yesterday launched the Digital TV Assistance Scheme to help low-income households shift from analog TV broadcasting.  Each eligible household is entitled to an Assistance Scheme package that will include a free digital TV set-top box, an indoor antenna and installation. With the package, they are able to continue enjoying free-to-air TV programmes as all analog signals will be terminated once Singapore broadcasting goes fully digital.  “Over 160,000 households that meet the qualifying criteria are expected to benefit from the scheme,” says MDA CEO Koh Lin-Net. Going digital will benefit audiences with better picture quality, cinematic surround-sound, multi-language subtitles and an electronic guide for programme schedules.  Currently, seven estates including Bukit Batok, Jurong East and Ang Mo Kio are already receiving digital broadcast signals and MDA expects to achieve complete digital transmission over Singapore by 2016.
