It’s just another grim reminder of how dangerous it is to be a nightclub bouncer — one such professional received a serious slash to his jugular by an unruly patron with a box cutter last Saturday.
He survived by literally mere millimetres; doctors reportedly said that the blade narrowly missed his jugular veins.
A fellow bouncer working near St. James Power Station narrates the incident in a dramatic recount on Stomp. He was first notified of an ongoing commotion taking place at a club nearby and quickly went over to assist. When he got there, a young patron was making his strike at a bouncer standing at the club’s entrance. "When I went near the bouncer I was shocked to find a very big hole on the bouncer's neck and immediately turned to the young patron who swung his arm,” he recalls. "I asked him what was in his hand and he haughtily showed the paper cutter in his palm and did not show any form of remorse for his actions.
With the narrator immediately jumping to the aid of the fallen bouncer, the perpetrator and his group of friends ran away from the scene. Despite the hole in his neck, the victim got up and started chasing the youths with other bouncers in tow. During the chase, he became drowsy and collapsed at a bridge at VivoCity, while the narrator and his colleagues called for the police and an ambulance. He was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital, and is receiving treatment.
Police are currently conducting investigations.
