Singapore topped Bloomberg’s annual ranking of the most efficient healthcare system among 51 countries eligible for the study.
This results in Hong Kong, the top ranking for the study last year, dropping to second place and Italy coming right behind as third.
In recent years, the government has put extra focus on the healthcare system in Singapore, implementing new measures to support the aging population. Besides the increase in healthcare spending, there have been subsidies on medical expenses too. However, patients who opt for premium services will have to incur the extra cost on their own.
In an effort to help Singaporeans benefit from health packages, The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the government would fund almost $4 billion for MediShield Life, a new universal health insurance plan and has set aside $9 billion for part of the Pioneer Generation Package.
The annual Bloomsberg study on the most efficient healthcare system consists of countries with a minimum five million population, GDP per capita above $6,340, and a life expectancy of at least 70 years.
