PUB has announced a second NEWater plant at Changi, which will be built by BESIN-UEN Consortium.
The facility is set to begin operations in 2016, and will supply an additional 500 million gallons of NEWater per day to the nation's water supply.
The second plant will be established under a Design, Build, Own and Operate (DBOO) arrangement, and operate on the proven NEWater technology introduced by PUB; much alike to the first NEWater plant at Changi.
Among the seven bids to the open tender, BESIN-UEN Consortium presented the most competitive 25-year rate for the supply of NEWater from 2016 – 2041. It is scheduled to sign the NEWater Agreement (NWA) with PUB by next month.
Currently, 30 percent of Singapore water demands are covered by NEWater. It’s set to increase to 55% in the long run.
