In a new enforcement effort against illegal parking, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be expanding their field of vision by installing closed-circuit television cameras at 10 more locations.
Starting from Sept. 22, areas such as Beach Road, Admiralty MRT, Jalan Besar, Tanjong Katong Road and more will be monitored by CCTVs for parking offences on a 24-hour basis. The CCTVs won’t exactly be subtle, as they will be clearly demarcated by parking restriction lines and signs that should be easily identifiable to motorists.
The 10 new locations have been selected for CCTV monitoring due to high concentration of pedestrian activities and chronic traffic congestions, with the hope that the measures will smooth traffic flow. Since the implementation of cameras in 20 current locations including Bishan MRT and Jalan Sultan, LTA notes that they’ve seen varying improvements in traffic condition along the monitored roads, as they are no longer obstructed by vehicles parking indiscriminately.
