Ministry of Health assures low risk of Ebola outbreak in SingaporeSingapore’s Minister of State for Health recently assured in Parliament earlier today that the risk of the Ebola virus spreading here is small, Channel NewsAsia reports.  The transmission of Ebola is not airborne, Dr. Lam Pin Min added, noting that its transmission requires direct contact with infected blood or fluids. Furthermore, the number of travellers from affected countries have remained small, especially after the World Health Organisation declared the outbreak in West Africa as a public health emergency of international concern. Nevertheless, Dr. Lam reminds the Parliament that they cannot rule out the possibility of a case here. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs have also taken extra precaution by paying close attention to the 13 Singaporeans currently in Ebola-affected countries Nigeria and Liberia, keeping in constant contact with them.  The Ministry of Health (MOH) has also laid out a plan to prevent the spread of Ebola should a case arrive here, with dedicated isolative facilities at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.  “In the event of a confirmed case of Ebola in Singapore, MOH will carry out contact tracing and all close contacts of the confirmed case will be quarantined for 21 days from the time of last exposure,” Dr. Lam stated according to Channel NewsAsia, adding that healthcare workers here have been familiarised with contingency response plans.  Photo: Tan Tock Seng Hospital Facebook page Read Also: Ministry of Health publishing surgery costs on website
