For the duration of this month, Eminent Plaza is being taken over by Singapore’s creative communities in an offbeat celebration of local art and music, turning the once notorious 'vice mall' into an artspace of sorts.
The #urbanisme project put together by local art collectives Tact Space and THE RSC kicks off this Friday, taking place in the disused Eminent Plaza which faces demolition in October. Until then, An Eminent Takeover features the occupation of art over its abandoned spaces - expect multi-disciplinary artworks and live music performances among the uninhabited KTV lounges, office cubicles and massage parlours. Artists such as Adeline Kueh, Shawn Lim, Liana Yang and more will be exhibiting their works at the plaza throughout the occupation.
The takeover will also feature the long-awaited return of the Identite series, the weekly local music showcase that once resided at indie venue Home Club which ceased operations earlier this year. A makeshift space - appropriately called the Lapsap Studio - has been set up with local indie bands Cashew Chemists, Pleasantry and ANECHOIS taking up residency.
An Eminent Takeover begins this Friday, Sept. 5, admission is free. Stay updated about the events happening during the occupation on the Facebook event page.
