Blue Bali
1D Cluny Rd, Singapore 259600
Located on the outskirts of Singapore Botanic Gardens, Blue Bali is an oasis of peace away from the hubbub of the city. At the villa’s restaurant, diners get to dine al-fresco style under wood pavilions and look out onto a vast landscape of greenery. Furnished with Balinese ornaments and décor, the restaurant serves up Indonesian food with a modern twist.

Customs House
70 Collyer Quay, Singapore 049323
An expat haunt that provides a dazzling view of the Marina Bay Sands skyline and financial district, Customs House is one of our favourite spots for merrymaking. What used to be a heritage building, it now houses five restaurants serving up flavours from Japan, Thailand, Cuban, Florence, and the sea – with a seafood bar that dishes out plump oysters and flutes of champagne.

Japanese Gardens
1 Chinese Garden Rd, Singapore 619795
Just a stone throw away from Chinese Garden MRT station, the Japanese Garden is linked to the Chinese Garden by a bridge. Every part of the garden you point your camera towards provides you with a picture-perfect angle – from colourful bonsai trees to elegant pagodas set against a 6pm sky. This place is ideal for a simple day out in the sun with a book in hand and a picnic mat.

Kampong Lorong Buangkok
8 Lorong Buangkok
Kampong Lorong Buangkok might be the only village left in Singapore to have resisted Singapore’s fast-evolving developments and plans to build high-rise buildings. There is a small community of 28 families that still occupies the village today. This place genuinely looks untouched since it was built in 1954, with dirt roads and from what we heard – S6.50 to $30 rent/month.

Punggol Ranch Resort
900 Punggol Rd, Track 24, Singapore 829168
Tucked away in a corner of Singapore where people don’t often expect to find anything remotely exciting, Punggol Ranch Resort surprises us with a range of activities for a fun family or couple outing. The resort provides riding lessons with horses and ponies (note: rider weight restrictions – 75kg for horse riders, 35kg for pony riders). These Gallop Wagons (white tents in the picture above) are not stables for the horses but chalets opened to the public.
Besides horse and pony riding lessons, activities such as horseback archery, stable tours and pony carriages rides are available too.
Sengkang Floating Wetland
Anchorvale Street
Sengkang Floating Wetland’s a piece of art created under Active, Beautiful and Clean (ABC) Water programme in 2008. The place exudes an air of tranquility and is perfect to take a walk at to relieve the weight of the city’s hustle bustle after a long week. The fruit-theme boardwalk that features cutesy floor decals and mangosteen pavilions overlooks the Punggol Reservoir where sports activities are held.

Sentosa Cove
1 Cove Avenue, Singapore 098537
Water here may not be as crystal clear as Maldives, but the vibe at Sentosa Cove definitely is the closest to an idyllic beach holiday in our opinion. Take a weekend off to relax at W Singapore, a hotel that features the beautiful mix of nature-meets-urban. For boating enthusiasts, do visit One 15 Marina Club – one of the most prestigious yacht hub in Asia.

The Rail Mall
380 Upper Bukit Timah Rd, Singapore 678040
A stomping ground for many of the Bukit Timah residents, The Rail Mall is a one-stop place for meals, spa, grocery shopping, or simply a cuppa in the morning. This stretch of road, which used to be the neighbourhood’s best-kept secret, is now a hangout place for people from all around Singapore. Try out the guilt-free ice cream at Sugalight if you ever visit. We reckon their dutch chocolate flavoured icecream taste just as good as the famous “hei” icecream at Awfully Chocolate – catch is: Sugalight’s has lower calories, at lower prices. Score!
Tudor Court
131 Tanglin Rd, Singapore 247924
Situated right beside Tanglin Shopping Mall, this stretch of shop houses looks like an excerpt stolen from a 1980s Paris history textbook. The quaint shopping street is where humble art galleries, home décor shops, Turkish rugs, and unsurprisingly – a French café Hediard, can be found.
