The Substation is holding their annual anniversary celebration SeptFest next month, this time with a necessary twist.
For their 24th birthday, the pioneering contemporary arts centre wants to repair and renovate The Substation Gallery, a space within the space that has hosted everything from experimental showcases to workshop exhibitions.
We personally love The Substation Gallery — we met controversial multi-disciplinary artist Zai Kuning for the first time there and it was also where we picked up the New Age 'zine we've got taped to our wall.
To fund their efforts, The Substation is holding their very first silent auction on a fundraising exhibition featuring over 30 works by Singapore artists like Boedi Widjaja, Lee Wen, Robert Zhao (piece pictured above), Tania de Rozario, Vertical Submarine and Zul Mahmod. There will be two editions, one from Sep. 4 - 13 and another from Sep. 18 - 27. Artists will retain 10 percent of each work's market value and the remaining will go to The Substation as the buyer's donation.
If you just want to donate money, you can do so via their crowdfunding page on Pozible, which targets to raise $4,500 in over a month for the basic repair work. The cause itself is enough reason for us, but if you're considering digging deeper into your pocket, cool rewards like an iced gingerbread man cookie dedicated to Lee Wen's work Journey of a Yellow Man, SKLO vinyl stickers and a potted cutting from The Substation's banyan tree should keep you interested.
