182 arrested in latest anti-loansharking blitzIn a five-day anti-loansharking operation last week, the police arrested 182 people suspected to be involved in loansharking activities. There were 126 men and 56 women, all of whom were aged between 16 and 77. From Monday to Friday, the police conducted raids at various locations. In a media release on Saturday, the police revealed that 165 of the arrested are believed to have opened bank accounts and released their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and Personal Identification Number (PIN) to loansharks. 16 suspects are believed to have assisted the illegal moneylending business as harassers or runners. Another apprehended suspect, supposedly a debtor, had provided inaccurate contact information when obtaining loans from loansharks, and is now under investigation. Investigations on all suspects are ongoing. Photo: Wylio
