Whut: 50 Singaporeans turned back from Batam immigration weekly for talking loudlyIt seems about 50 Singaporeans are turned back every week for offences like talking loudly and using the phone while queueing up at immigration before entering Batam.  According to The New Paper (TNP), 12 people were made to return to Singapore on Aug. 12, possibly because they'd been talking loudly at the checkpoint of the Batam Centre Ferry Terminal. Among them was 33-year-old tutor Ms. Ann Fernandez, who'd had her travel documents taken away from her and was made to stand in a separate line.  Our reporter, who was also in Batam during the National Day weekend, noted being told to "sshh" by a uniformed officer. The checkpoint, which had been filled with the sounds of chatter and laughter moments before, turned quiet.  TNP has also referenced a report in Chinese newspaper the Shin Min Daily News, which quoted ferry operator Master Wave Holidays Club saying that about 50 Singaporeans are turned back every week.  Photo: Streetdirectory
